Quick answer

A TELCO LINE or COMM FAULT trouble on the Fire-Lite MS-9200UDLS means the onboard DACT lost a supervised phone line or could not deliver a report. Check that each line comes in through its own RJ31X jack with the panel as the first device on the line, that the line type (touchtone or rotary) is programmed correctly, and that Phone Line 2 supervision matches how the second path is really provided. Watch the Kiss-off LED to confirm the central station acknowledges each message.

Steps

From: MS-9200UDLS Series manual, pp. 37, 119, 125, 135, 150

  1. Check the wiring path
Two independent telephone lines connect through RJ31X jacks. The panel's digital communicator must be the first device on the incoming telephone circuit, ahead of premise phones, fax machines and answering systems.
  2. Check the jacks and cable
Each line plugs into the PRI. PHONE LINE and SEC. PHONE LINE connectors with the 7 foot MCBL-7 cable. Remove the shorting bars inside the RJ31X jack during installation.
  3. Don't dial a forwarded number
The DACT must not be used to dial a phone number that is call-forwarded.
  4. Confirm the DACT is enabled and the line type is right
In programming open Option Modules, 2 for On Board DACT. Set Enabled to Yes, then set Primary Phone and Secondary Phone to Touchtone, Rotary 67/33 or Rotary 62/38 to match the line.
  5. Match Phone Line 2 supervision to the install
If the second path is an alternate means of transmission and not a second phone line, set Supervise Phone Line 2 to No on On Board DACT Screen #2. The factory default is supervised.
  6. Read status without changing anything
Read Status Screen #4, 2 for Phone Line shows the line types and whether Phone Line 2 is supervised; 3 for Central Station shows reporting enabled, Primary and Secondary, and the Call Limit for DACT trouble calls within a 24 hour period.
  7. Test and watch the Kiss-off LED
The green Kiss-off LED blinks when the central station acknowledges each transmitted message. The red Primary and Secondary Line Active LEDs show which line is in use.

Common mistakes

From: MS-9200UDLS Series manual, pp. 37-38, 124-125

  • Premise phones or a fax ahead of the panel. The DACT can't seize the line unless it is the first device on the circuit.
  • Leaving Phone Line 2 supervised when the second path is a radio or IP communicator. The panel reports a TELCO LINE 2 trouble that never clears.
  • Missing ferrite clamps. FCC requirements call for one clamp on each phone line inside the cabinet.
