How do I connect door holders, elevator recall and fan shutdown to a Silent Knight 6820 fire panel
On the Silent Knight 6820, power fire door holders from a Flexput circuit programmed as door holder auxiliary power (AUX DOOR): it carries 24 volt power while the system is normal and drops power on any fire alarm, releasing the doors until the panel is reset. Elevator recall and fan shutdown use a relay output point (RELAY, OUTPUT PT) mapped to the fire output group. For an elevator relay, set Allow System Override to NO so a higher-priority EVS event can't stop the recall.
Steps

- Pick a Flexput circuit for door holdersFlexput Circuits 1-6 can be auxiliary power. Each circuit can source up to 3A, and total current for all Flexput circuits must not exceed 6.0 A.
- Wire it with the right polarityAs auxiliary power, terminals labeled O are negative and X are positive. Use a UL-listed door holder from the Device Compatibility Document.
- Program the point as door holder powerLog in, select 7 for Panel Programming, press 4 for the Point Menu, choose the module and point, then pick the AUX DOOR option.
- Know how it behavesWith no fire alarms and AC present the circuit has 24 volt power. Any fire alarm disconnects it and doors close. Power returns when the fire system is reset. On AC loss door holder power drops to save the battery and comes back as soon as AC is restored.
- Use a relay point for elevator recall and fan shutdownProgram the output as RELAY, OUTPUT PT, a general use relay type for applications such as fan shutdown and elevator recall, and assign it to the output group that fire events map to.
- Protect elevator recall from overridesAllow System Override defaults to YES on each output group. For the group driving an elevator relay set it to NO, so the elevator still moves to the bottom floor when a higher-priority EVS event is active.
- Test itPut the panel in alarm, confirm doors release and the relay operates, then reset and confirm door holder power comes back.

| Flexput aux circuits | Circuits 1-6 |
|---|---|
| Per circuit | Up to 3A |
| All Flexput circuits | 6.0 A total |
| Door holder output | 24 volt with no alarm and AC present |
| Resettable power on reset | Off for 30 seconds, then re-applied |
| Non-latching smoke detectors | Allowed for elevator recall and door holding, not for general alarm |
Common mistakes
From: 6820/6820EVS Addressable Fire Alarm Cont manual, pp. 15, 54, 119
- Using Resettable or Constant power for door holders. Only the door holder type drops on alarm; constant power is always present.
- Leaving Allow System Override at YES on the elevator recall group. An EVS event with higher priority can then override the recall output.
- Using non-latching spot smoke detectors to sound a general alarm in a commercial building. They are only for elevator recall, door holding and hotel/motel room applications.
