Rack layout builder
Pick the rack, then drag equipment into rack units, or tap a part and tap a rack unit on a phone. Power, heat, weight and UPS runtime update as you build, using each part's datasheet values.

Questions
How do I convert rack watts to BTU/hr?
Multiply watts by 3.412. When a datasheet lists its own heat figure, the parts list shows it next to the watts.
How much load can I put on a 20 A circuit?
Continuous loads are held to 80% of the breaker: 16 A, which is 1,920 W at 120 V or 3,328 W at 208 V. The builder warns when your max load passes that line.
Why is typical power blank?
Many datasheets list only maximum power. Typical watts show once every part in the rack has a documented typical figure; max watts are always used for circuit, PDU and UPS checks.
Can front and rear devices share a rack unit?
Yes, when both are shallow enough. A device deeper than half the rack's mounting depth, or one the manufacturer lists as full-depth, takes the U on both faces.
How is UPS runtime worked out?
From the manufacturer's runtime at full and half load. Loads between those points are estimated on a curve through both; lighter loads show at least the half-load runtime.
